Vieri set for Lazio revival
Tuesday 10 July, 2007
Christian Vieri is on the verge of a sensational return to Lazio, the club he last played for in 1999.
The Italian international is currently a free agent after the end of his spell at Atalanta, where he scored just two goals in seven Serie A appearances.
Kept off the field for over a year by injury, he is eager to resume his career in the Champions League with Lazio.
President Claudio Lotito has already announced that his club will sign “a striker and a midfielder,” so Vieri fits the bill.
Reports in the ‘Corriere dello Sport’ claim Lotito is seriously considering the proposal to take on the player who turns 34 on Thursday.
The Biancocelesti are in the preliminary round of the Champions League and would welcome the addition of an experienced centre-forward to help Tommaso Rocchi and Goran Pandev.
Vieri moved from Atletico Madrid to Lazio in 1998, but stayed only one season before shattering the world transfer record with a £32.1m switch to Inter.
His wages have dropped considerably since then, as ‘Bobo’ now earns around £200,000 per season.
Following six years at Inter, Vieri went on to brief and unsuccessful spells at Milan, Monaco and Atalanta, plus a few weeks in which he was under contract at Sampdoria only to terminate it without attending a single training session.
In other news, Lazio have been boosted by Luciano Zauri’s contract extension until June 30, 2012.

12 Million Euros Needed To Sign Giuseppe Rossi, Says Agent
The young Italian forward would leave Manchester United if the Red Devils receive that amount in the coming weeks.
One of the most sought after Italian players in the transfer market is Giuseppe Rossi of Manchester United, with various Italian and European clubs lining up to sign the young talent.
With the Red Devils signing Carlos Tevez, Rossi's stay with the English Premier League champions is highly in doubt and as his agent, Andrea Pastorello, explained to 'Radio Radio TV', with 10-12 million Euros, the Red Devils will let him go.
"Giuseppe Rossi is a Manchester United player, but Parma wanted him back and they still want him back, and in the past few days they made an offer.
"However, Rossi is an important player and many clubs are courting him: now we shall have to wait for the response of Manchester United to this offer.
"The offer to convince the Red Devils is between 10 and 12 million Euros."
Apart from Parma, also other clubs are interested in signing Rossi, including Milan and Juventus.

Nedved signs new deal
Wednesday 11 July, 2007
Pavel Nedved has signed a new deal with Juventus, bringing to an end a fortnight of tension and speculation.
The Czech veteran had threatened to quit the club after his demands for a pay rise were initially denied by managing director Jean-Claude Blanc, but it seems that the ex-Lazio man’s words had the desired effect.
The deal was agreed last night as Nedved had dinner with sporting director Alessio Secco without his agent Mino Raiola and will see the 34-year-old serve out the remaining year of his contract on a higher wage.
Nedved accepted a pay cut of nearly 50 per cent to stay in Turin after Juve’s demotion to Serie B and is now believed to have negotiated a salary that is close to his original figure for his seventh season as a Bianconero.
The deal will be completed on Wednesday when the new squad is presented at Vinovo before moving to the pre-season camp at Pinzolo in the Dolomites.

Parma in for Rossi
Parma are the only Italian club to make an offer for Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi, according to the player’s agent.
The American-born marksman was a key player for the Ducali as his nine goals kept them in the top-flight during his loan stint last term and the Emiliani have already made a £6m offer for the Azzurini ace.
The latest reports in Italy suggested that Napoli were also ready to join the race for the youngster and were planning an £8.5m bid, but Rossi’s representative dismissed the speculation.
“The only offer from Italy has arrived from Parma,” Andrea Pastorello told Radio Kiss Kiss.
“I have spoken with Napoli director general Pierpaolo Marino, but we discussed other players. I cannot confirm that they have made an offer for Giuseppe.”
Rossi, who was also paired with Fiorentina as the Viola search for a new high-profile hitman to replace Luca Toni, had stated that he was eager to prove himself with Manchester United.
Parma President Tommaso Ghirardi, however, hopes that his offer will be enough to bring the player back to the Stadio Tardini, although the Premiership outfit are after £10m.

Bayern Munich rattle Inter with Materazzi offer
tribalfooball.com - July 27, 2007
Bayern Munich have tabled a major £4.75 million bid for Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi.
Tgcom says Inter will receive the offer in the coming days through agent Claudio Vigorelli, but president Massimo Moratti is expected to reject it.
Moratti regards Materazzi as a symbol of his new Inter and is banking on the World Cup winner not being unsettled by Bayern's interest. Along with their bid, Bayern have also drawn up a three-year contract worth £9 million for Materazzi to consider.

Villarreal snap up Rossi
Tuesday 31 July, 2007
Manchester United have sold Italian Under-21 international starlet Giuseppe Rossi to Villarreal for a reported £6.7m.
The former Parma talent must undergo a medical on Wednesday to complete the move and sign a six-year contract.
This is a blow to several Serie A sides who were interested in taking the youngster, including the Tardini outfit where he spent the last six months on loan.
Fiorentina, Napoli and Juventus were also said to be keeping an eye on the situation, but would not meet the price tag.
It is claimed that the best offer received from an Italian club was just £5.4m, so a deal was not reached and the Spaniards swooped.
Rossi was a Parma youth team player, but was snapped up by Manchester United as a 16-year-old because under Italian laws he could not be put under a professional contract at that age.
He made his Serie A debut in January when he returned to Parma on loan, scoring nine goals in 19 games to help rescue them from relegation.
